How to apply to a Political Science PhD program
On Friday, April 19, 2024, MSIRA hosted an event featuring UCR alumni (and a current student) sharing their insights drawn from their success in applying to PhD programs in political science. The roundtable event featured: Justin Cheng, a 2022 graduate who double-majored in political science and public policy and who was admitted to 10 PhD programs in political science;Cookie Kim, who will graduate with a BA from UCR in political science in June 2024 and who has been accepted to UCLA’s PhD program; Jazmin Jimenez, who graduated from UCR with a BA in political science in 2020 and is currently a PhD student at Arizona State University; and Zabdi Velasquez, a 2023 UCR graduate in political science who was accepted to UCLA’s PhD program during his senior year and deferred beginning his graduate program for one year.
We did not record the event, but MSIRA post-baccalaureate fellows Gaby Arroyo-Gomez and Jhonjairo Fernandez-Dearcia took notes and below have created a list of key points from the event. To find the panelist’s responses, please click here.
